Qualcomm and Telefonica are allied by 3G in Latin America

Qualcomm and Telefonica announced on Thursday, 22/03, an agreement aimed at promoting the adoption of 3G and smartphone in Latin America. The companies are collaborating through a joint effort to bring a wide range of the latest 3G devices to the region, including smart phones equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

"This collaboration is a great opportunity to help with broadband access and services available and applications, providing connectivity in regions that otherwise would not have access to these resources. We believe that a large segment of the population will have their first Internet experience through a smartphone, and we are proud to contribute to reducing the digital divide, "says Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm Latin America, Steinhauser.

According to Wireless Intelligence, Latin America currently has more than 90 million 3G connections, which represent about 15% of total mobile connections in the region, indicating that there is a long way to growth. It is estimated that by the end of 2015, about 214 million new 3G connections will be added.
